Perth: An Oasis of Food, Wine, Shopping, Beaches

It's been called the most isolated city in the world because of its distance from the rest of Australia (Perth is closer to Singapore or Jakarta than it is to Canberra), but this only serves to make this striking outdoors town more adventurous and fun-loving.

Perth hosts beautiful beaches, plentiful water sports and entertainment facilities that reflect its demographic as the city with the youngest age profile in the country. Perth is known for its dining with restaurants that create fresh food with a modern Australian accent that is Mediterranean-inspired, with hints of eastern spice. Perth is close to some of Australia's most remote and reknowned wineries.

Some of the best designers in Australia hail from Perth - and the shopping can be terrific. For the best in fashion, browse through city centre arcades and the boutiques of Claremont and Leederville. There are plenty of art galleries and cutting-edge design outlets too.  For over 20 years, the Subiaco Pavilion Markets have been a favourite destination for locals and tourists alike seeking a unique, funky, non-mainstream shopping destination. The market is the heart and soul of trendy Subiaco, or 'Subi', as it is affectionately known by the locals.
