Why is Sydney the most breath-taking harbour side city in the world? Is it the stunning natural beauty of its beaches and accessible national parks, or is it the instantly recognisable icons of the Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge? Perhaps it's the invitation to get out and explore Sydney beyond its icons that makes visitors want to return.

 - or maybe it is the just the HOT MEN!

International in outlook, The Harbour City has many faces. Australia’s oldest and largest European settlement is a financial and cultural centre of the South Pacific set on one of the most stunning harbours of the world. The sheer physical splendour of the place makes Sydney a vain tart who knows her allure is irresistible and who is not averse to showing her seamier side. At its heart, Sydney is still a larrikin town whose origins as a penal settlement (think rum, sodomy and lash) have not been entirely wiped out.

Put all these faces together and Sydney is a vibrant city catering to all the visitor’s desires.

The personality of Sydney's dining scene is as distinctive as the city itself, reflecting its multicultural diversity and willingness to embrace new things. Find a fresh approach to flavour combinations at numerous gourmet restaurants, many of which are on the harbour and enjoy outstanding views. High-end dining experiences are plentiful, but café society thrives in Sydney's inner precincts and beaches.

Paddington and Balmain have flourishing pub-dining scenes and quality food is also on offer at historic pubs in The Rocks.

Gain an insight into Sydney Harbour's history on a cruise, or board a yacht to explore the harbour's hidden coves. For further relaxation experience the holiday feel of Sydney's northern beaches stretching from Manly to Palm Beach. Escape to outer Sydney and the Blue Mountains beyond to explore areas steeped in history and rich in natural beauty.

Sydney Harbour National Park protects several islands and foreshore areas around the spectacular harbour. Once the preserve of the wealthy, who often illegally fenced these areas off, the park was created in 1975 to free the Crown land once again for the public, and it links some of the prettiest foreshore areas around the harbour. South of the city, Botany Bay National park straddles two headlands and a span of history.
