Sydney comes alive with markets on Saturday and Sundays, with many held in school or church grounds.

Head for the suburbs of Paddington, Glebe, Bondi, Rozelle, Balmain, Surry Hills, The Rocks or Kirribilli to name a few of the many popular weekend markets to choose from.

Shoppers are spoilt for choice in Sydney. Looking beyond the city’s famous boutiques, shopping precincts and department stores, delve into the colourful market scene where you can find the trinket of your dreams, uncover a fashion creation of tomorrow, or just soak up the carnival atmosphere.

Paddy’s Market: a Chinatown fixture beneath the Market City shopping centre.

Paddington Market: a place for fashionistas to get in on the ground floor. It’s held in the grounds of the Paddington Uniting Church each Saturday.

Glebe’s Saturday Market: famed for its New Age edge; it’s also strong on the books and music front, and features live music to keep things hustling.

Bondi Market: held every Sunday on the grounds of Bondi public school. Offers plenty in the way of fashion and funky accessories, flowers, music and books.

Rozelle Market: where you can browse bric-a-brac, house plants and antiques crammed into the forecourt of Rozelle public school on Darling Street each weekend.

Balmain Market: organic produce, pretty ceramics and Tibetan rugs.

Surry Hills Market: on Crown Street’s Shannon Reserve; grooving to the funked-up, laid-back scene at the  - it’s only once a month (the first Saturday)

The Rocks Market: find the perfect iconic Aussie souvenir, held every Saturday and Sunday.
