Located within a short walking distance from Sydney's CBD, the Art Gallery of New South Wales is one of Australia's foremost art museums housing some of the finest works of art in the country.

The Gallery has a rich and diverse collection including key works of the Heidelberg School and favourite modern Australian artists include Brett Whiteley and Margaret Preston, as well as permanent Australian, European, Asian, contemporary and photographic galleries.

Of special interest to visitors is the Yiribana Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Gallery. Combined with guided tours, Yiribana offers an excellent introduction to the indigenous art and culture of this country.

The Asian Gallery features art works of north and south-east Asia, China, Korea, Japan and India from prehistoric to modern times.

The European collection includes an extensive collection of Victorian and Edwardian paintings as well as significant works from the French impressionists and 20th century modernists.

The Gallery is also open late every Wednesday until 9pm for Art After Hours. As well as all exhibitions being open, visitors can enjoy a myriad of free events including celebrity talks, concerts, films, guided tours and live music in the cafe. The Gallery is the only cultural venue in Sydney open late throughout the year and is a popular evening destination for Sydney residents and visitors alike.

Japanese language: Fridays 11.00am
Mandarin Language: Thursdays 11.00am
Cantonese Language: Tuesday 11.00am
Vietnamese: First Sunday each month 2.00pm

Guided tours of the Asian galleries:
Daily 12 noon.

Guided tours of the Yiribana Gallery:
Tuesdays to Sundays: 11.00am
