Perth - The most isolated city in the world

Sorrento Quay, Hillarys Boat Harbour

It's been called the most isolated city in the world because of its distance from the rest of Australia (Perth is closer to Singapore or Jakarta than it is to Canberra), but this only serves to make this striking outdoors town more adventurous and fun-loving.

With a booming minerals-based economy, a high growth rate and evidence of plenty of new money, Perth has rightfully established a name for itself as a sun-filled playground with beautiful beaches, plentiful water sports and entertainment facilities that reflect its demographic as the city with the youngest age profile in the country.

The City of Perth is focussed on the central business district and surrounding inner city residential areas. Nestled in a picturesque natural amphitheatre, bordered by Kings Park botanical gardens and the beautiful Swan River, visitors find the city to be clean, well laid-out, and easy to get around.

Perth's suburban arms hug the glistening sands of the Indian Ocean for vast stretches marked by the alternative hub of Fremantle to the south and the developments at Scarborough Beach and Hillarys Marina in the north. The city itself is set upon the tranquil waters of the Swan River. Nestled in a picturesque natural amphitheatre bordered by Kings Park botanical gardens and the beautiful waters of Perth Reach, visitors find the city to be clean, well laid out and easy to get around.

Public transport within the central city is free. The very popular CATS bus service travels on fixed east-west and north-south routes, guaranteeing the traveller's return to their point of boarding. Two major bus terminals and the central train station make public transport access to other suburbs in Perth an inexpensive and easy travel option.

There is good shopping available, plenty of riverside and beachside restaurants and cafes to dine at, world-class golf courses, over 80 kilometres (50 miles) of white sandy beaches to sunbathe on and a Mecca of outdoor activities and experiences to enjoy.

Don't expect the Sydney scene; however, you will find an abundance of watering holes to quench your thirst.
Perth is an ideal base from which you can explore the diverse surrounding attractions. Only minutes away, you can visit wineries with sumptuous lunches, swim with wild dolphins in their natural environment, holiday on an island, and explore the colourful port city of Fremantle.
