Black Swan Theatre Company is one of Australia's foremost not-for-profit theatre companies. Since its inception in 1991, the Company has earned both critical and popular acclaim for its world premiere productions and highly distinctive (re)interpretations of international theatre classics ' all of which are infused with the unique culture of Western Australia.

Black Swan's creative and corporate ethos ' forged under the founding Chairmanship of Janet Holmes à Court and Artistic Director, Andrew Ross ' continues to be nurtured and developed by current Chair Richard Duldig and incumbent Artistic Director, Tom Gutteridge.

Such has been the scope of Black Swan's contribution to the Western Australian performing arts sector that the Minister for Culture and the Arts, The Hon. Sheila McHale, MLA, announced in 2004 that Black Swan was to become Western Australia'a State Flagship Theatre Company ' a welcome development that will further consolidate the Company's audience reach and allow it to provide opportunities and leadership to Western Australia's theatre industry.

The company has undertaken co-productions with all of Australia's leading theatre companies including Company B Belvoir Street, Playbox [Malthouse Theatre], State Theatre Company of South Australia, Sydney Theatre Company, Queensland Theatre Company and Melbourne Theatre Company, and also with local Perth companies including Deckchair Theatre and Steamworks Arts Productions.

As Black Swan Theatre Company begins its role as Western Australia's State Flagship Theatre Company it hopes to build on the past success of such acclaimed productions and co-productions as Bran Nue Dae, Sistergirl, Tourmaline, Dead Heart, Corrugation Road (winner of the prestigious The Age Critics' Award), The Merry-Go-Round in the Sea, Plainsong, Cloudstreet, The Odyssey, The Carnivores and Red Dog.

In 2007 Black Swan Theatre Company continues its great tradition of producing first class theatre for the people of Western Australia or for those just visiting.
