As the colder weather drives the residents of central Victoria indoors, our thoughts are turning to indoor activities, preferably in front of a warm heater. Enthusiastic gardeners and outdoors most of the warmer months, noted silversmith, Ernest Leviny, and his family were no different over 100 years ago but what winter pastimes did they enjoy at Buda, their stately Castlemaine home' Buda Historic Home & Garden's current exhibition running from June to September focuses specifically on that very question.

Delving into the Leviny family's collection of personal diaries, letters and other records that recount how the family spent their time during the winter months, Buda's curator has drawn together a collection of interesting stories and items for display.

In addition to the fascinating experience of walking through this museum accredited property occupied by two generations of the Leviny family over a 118 year period, visitors to Buda will be able to view a range of 19th Century books, albums, games and fireside crafts that were undertaken by various Leviny family members at different times in their life. Excerpts from their personal records will help create a vivid picture of how this talented family spent their winter months. With three acres of enchanting gardens to explore, there is much to see and do.

A plant nursery also offers for sale a wide range of heritage trees, shrubs, roses and ground covers ideally suited for our current drought conditions.
