Experience Tasmania's wild mountain heights located right on the Hobart's doorstep.

Depart Hobart and drive up to 720 meters (2362 foot) above sea level for the beginning of your walk. A short safety briefing is given before you enter a Yellow Gum Forest full of ferns, bright berries and ancient heaths. Little native birds including endemic honeyeaters flit around the bush, delighting and amusing with their songs.

Cross numerous bolder fields on the way, which offer sweeping views down to the city and river below. Underground streams bubble and burble beneath your feet!

You will regroup and take a few minutes to enjoy the surrounding at a wooden seat at the junction of the Pinnacle, Organs Pipes and Zig Zag Tracks. Then it's time to head up the steep and amazingly scenic Zig Zag track to the Summit. Many unique plants may be seen here, including the Wellington Eyebright, which only grows on the upper slopes of Mount Wellington.

Take a break for a gourmet morning or afternoon tea three quarters of the way to the top at a carved dolerite seat situated on a prominent corner of the track, high above Hobart, the Derwent and Storm Bay. Prepare to be amazed at the views!

You will reach the summit of Mount Wellington (1270 meters or 4166 foot above sea level). Enjoy time here to explore the lookouts and marvel at the breathtaking views of Hobart and its waterways as well as distant mountains of the SouthWest, Central Highlands, Ben Lomond, Freycinet and Maria Island. If the weather is poor you'll be blown away by the change from Hobart - it's often 10 degrees colder and blowing a gale (remember, this is a Tasmanian mountain!).

From here you will drive down to spectacular Summit Road to Hobart and your preferred drop-off point.
