Depart Hobart and drive up to 720 meters above sea level for the beginning of your walk. A short safety briefing is given before you enter an enchanted forest of magnificent tall eucalypts, ferns and unique gondwanan rainforest species. You will soon reach the tallest tree in the forest, the magnificent Octopus Tree. Take some time to wonder about the way this special tree has grown.

Retracing your steps for 5 minutes, reach the junction with the Circle Track and descend a little further into the forest. You'll pass over a footbridge that spans the headwaters of Hobart Rivulet and see some magnificent tall Fern Trees, as well as taking time out to learn about the ancient nature of these plants and hear about the contrasting ways the previous Aboriginal and European residents used them.

Back at the minibus it's all on board for a short ride to our first scenic lookout over the Derwent, South Arm, Tasman Peninsula and Storm Bay. Shortly after, reach the Springs and start your second walk.

The second walk tracks the eastern face of the Mountain for 1.5 kilometers to Sphinx Rock Lookout. The forest on the way is higher and drier than before, and you'll gain extensive views down to Hobart and beyond to Maria Island on the East Coast. At Sphinx Rock Lookout or Rock Cabin enjoy a gourmet morning or afternoon tea which includes produce from unique Tasmanian plants you've seen along the way.

On returning to the minibus drive to the Summit of Mt Wellington (1270m or 4166ft ASL). There is time here to explore the lookouts and marvel at the breathtaking views of Hobart and its waterways as well as distant mountains of the SouthWest, Central Highlands, Ben Lomond, Freycinet and Maria Island. If the weather is poor you'll be blown away by the change from Hobart - it's often 10 degrees colder and blowing a gale (remember, this is a Tasmanian Mountain).

From here drive down the spectacular Summit Road to Hobart.
