Southport is just north of Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast and is home to Sea World and the luxurious Palazzo Versace Hotel. Southport overlooks the Broadwater and the Southport Spit, which is a long sandbar that divides the Broadwater from the Pacific Ocean.

The Spit, popular with surfers and fisherman alike, it also attracts the local gay bathers.  Event though the locals bare all, sunbathing in your birthday suit is totally illegal in Queensland.

Be aware that undercover police walk freely amongst the dunes and bushes!  Cruise and sunbath nude at your own risk!

That being said, there is excellent shopping, cafes and restaurants in Southport at the Marina Mirage and the Australia Fair Shopping Centre.
