Holyrood House

Welcome to Holyrood-House the lovingly restored country residence and historic garden in the heart of Daylesford Australia's Spa and alternate lifestyle capitol.

The staff quarters c.1916, this part of the house has just been renovated to create a three roomed suite consisting of a Sitting Room complete with fire place, kitchenette, TV & DVD, a queen sized double bedroom and a double spa bathroom. It has its own separate entrance and can be completely independent of the remainder of the house or as part of a party booking. It is named after the Duke of Wellington’s London Residence as the Duke's Crest hangs in the bedroom.

All guests in the Apsley suite enjoy their own coffee/tea making facilities, a generous continental breakfast (as an optional extra, a fully cooked three course breakfast delivered to your suite is available on request) . In your fridge awaits a bottle of champagne and on the sideboard a decanter of port. Enjoy.

The original owner of ‘The Firs’, as this house was called when built in 1864, was Donald McLeod. A Scot from Edinburgh, he was Town Clerk of Daylesford for 23 years. He also owned and operated the’Battery’ or crusher for the goldbearing quartz. This was situated diagonally opposite the house so he used this room as his Parlour/office. It is now our Spa Suite and has the exclusive use of the original, 1905, marble bathroom recently renovated to include a double spa. The bathroom is just a few steps down the passage, towelling bathrobes are supplied.

THE RESTAURANT:
Built as the Billiard room in 1927, the restaurant specialises in both Asian and Western food. Our chef, Yong cooks the most delicious Nonya Style Malaysian Banquets and Andrew is the specialist in Western cuisine. The restaurant is open for bookings only and is generally open for dinner Friday and Saturday nights. A pre-dinner drink is served in either the Guest lounge in front of the fire in winter or whilst you take a stroll around the extensive gardens when the weather is clement .

Dinner is served in the atmosphere of candlelight and oil lamps, with ceiling fans slowly revolving above invoking some of the character of the last of the British Colonial Raj. A maximum of 20 guests for a function or tables seating from 2 to 8 makes Holyrood House and ideal place for an intimate dinner or a small private celebration. Party bookings of 8 or more can be made for any day for lunch or dinner by prior arrangement and booking. Specialised menus can also be arranged to suit your wishes. The restaurant is fully licensed and serves a variety of local Spa Country Wines.
