Adelaide - Fringe 2009

Adelaide Fringe is Australia's largest arts festival. Originating in 1960 as a movement of artists who performed and operated outside the main Adelaide Festival of Arts program, but during the festival time frame, the Fringe has grown over the years to become one of South Australia's most loved events.

Adelaide Fringe 2008 is now over and with over 187,000 tickets sold, the event was a stellar success!

This year non-ticketed, free public events were also hugely popular. Family Day became Family Weekend and doubled in size and attendances. And Fringe Opening Night was the biggest free party Adelaide has ever seen.

Fringe Director, Christie Anthoney says, “I believe that Fringe festivals check the pulse of popular culture. We don’t choose who performs at the Fringe, the artists decide. It’s clear that audiences love getting out and enjoying live Fringe experiences. All in all it’s been awesome!”
