Buxton Manor - George Lowe Esquire

Buxton Manor - George Lowe Esquire, part of the North Adelaide Heritage Group, is a spacious suite of five rooms with polished floors, high marbled ceilings and Victorian antiques.

The master bedroom with decorative silver ware and softly hued antique lights overlooks the sunken rose garden, through Scottish lace curtains. The drawing room walls are hung with colonial paintings of the era and furnished with magnificent arts and crafts and Barossa Valley antiques, including a beautiful cedar bookcase and carved chaise lounge. The drawing room has marbleised ceilings, imported spruce polished floorboards and William Morris inspired drapes.

Many formal drink parties were held in this sumptuous spacious elegant room by the legal eagles of Adelaide as they discussed the Australian constitution warmed by the open fire. The kitchen has colonial furniture, interesting curios, a breakfast table and a kitchen pantry. The front portico flanked by diamond leadlight windows leads into the grand entrance foyer, and magnificent hall furniture.

The second bedroom has sweet antique beds and a lovely white children's rocker. Buxton Manor is a glorious, romantic, rambling large mansion built in 1908 in the William Morris arts and craft theme of decorative red brick with steep sloping roof lines and bevelled diamond shaped windows, surrounded by half an acre of manicured gardens with masses of old fashioned scented roses, herb garden, cottage flowers and sweeping lawns.

It houses our best collection of Australian antiques and memorabilia and features open fires, polished spruce floors, decorative fireplaces, marbleised ceilings, rag rolled faux paint finishes, ornate ceiling roses, gilt mirrors, sumptuous antique beds and ducted air conditioning.

Complimentary tea and coffee.

It lies in the heart of the exclusive historic area of North Adelaide, part of the city of Adelaide. One of the fathers of the Australian constitution Sir Josiah Symons lived in the manor during the winter months tended by his butler, chauffeur, cook and maids.

At Buxton Manor guests have the option of choosing three different breakfasts, continental provisions, European breakfast provisions or full English breakfast provisions. Also provided are two room service menus, Scuzzi and Beyond India.

Buxton Manor lies on the Connector Free Bus route.
